2007 Solar Decathlon - CMPBS/Texas A&M
The Solar Decathlon is a biennial competition sponsored by the US Department of Energy that challenges twenty student teams to design, build and operate a solar powered house. Teams attempt to design a structure that is cost effective, energy efficient and attractive.
CMPBS partnered with the Texas A&M University for the Solar Decathlon competition in 2007. The project is a combination of a prefabricated structure (Go-Home) and prefabricated steel pieces (joints, beams, etc.) for assembly into a modular structure (Gro-Home). Interchangeable "plug-and-play" Gro-Walls contain utilities and living spaces that can be switched out with the changing needs of the occupants. The floor and roof of the structure are Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs).
