The Solar Decathlon is a biennial competition sponsored by the US Department of Energy that challenges twenty student teams to design, build and operate a solar powered house. Teams attempt to design a structure that is cost effective, energy efficient and attractive.

CMPBS partnered with the University of Texas Austin for the inaugural Solar Decathlon competition in 2002. The 800 square foot building is designed as a flexible, modular open building system that changes with the occupants' needs.

Visit the Solar Decathlon website for more information about the competition.
